Are you active duty military?

Are you separating or retiring within the next 12 months?

Do you want to live and work in Maine?

If you answered yes to these questions, YOU are exactly why BOOTS2ROOTS exists!

Who we are:

Boots2Roots is the only Maine nonprofit that is specifically focused on connecting with soon-to-be veterans before they come to Maine. Our goals are to help them prepare for a successful transition and find fulfilling and decent paying employment quickly. We are:

  • A team of recently separated/retired veterans and committed non-veterans.
  • Veterans who have been in your shoes and want to help make your transition smoother than ours was.
  • Committed to helping you set up a game plan and personally and proactively assisting you in executing that plan.

How we will team with you:

As a Boots2Roots Teammate, you’ll work with one of our Front Line Volunteers who will personally and proactively facilitate your:

  • Employment search.
  • Resume and interview skills development to sell your capabilities.
  • Employer networking.
  • Resource connections (veterans organizations, realtors, education resources, training opportunities, etc.).

There is no charge, no bureaucracy and there are no cold calls. We only make referrals to organizations/agencies that we know and trust.

Transition is a stressful time, and early preparation is key to both a smooth transition and financial stability. The best time to start your transition planning is while you’re on active duty. Please contact us and become our Teammate throughout your transition.

"What you are doing at Boots2Roots is truly a blessing to those of us looking to "transition" into the civilian sector. Knowing that someone "has our backs" (so to speak) that truly cares gives such a tremendous feeling of security. I sincerely look forward to continuing to work with you as my time gets nearer!"

“Thanks you for all you are doing. I don’t think I could do this if I didn’t have your help.”

– U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant

“I was amazed at how perfectly Boots2Roots aligns with what I'm trying to do and where I'm trying to go. I'm grateful to have you as a resource, especially considering the cognitive dissonance I sometimes feel with life back home and employment in the civilian world.”

– U.S. Army Colonel

U.S. Chief Warrant Officer 4

“As always, thank you very much for the hard work and dedication. We are so happy and grateful to have you in our corner!”

– U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant

U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant

“Boots2Roots provided the peace of mind that my family and I needed to be able to make the decision to come home…and three days after I got to Maine I had an interview"

– U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant

U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 4

“Boots2Roots, helped me by giving me a personal representative to help guide me and mentor me along the way of transition. Nothing was left off the table and they were always willing to help me in any way by going above and beyond my expectations.I couldn't have asked for a better advocate on trying to relocate and find employment in Maine.”
